Owens' Signing-A Signature of Class

Everyone offers their own opinion on Terrell Owens' most recent media grabber, the pen-in-the-sock thing. But the question I would like to ask is, why is that?

Why is a clever, humerous, and classy celebration of pulling a pen out of your sock and signing a football to give to a friend being broadcast over the national spotlight? Why is this such a big deal?

Well, I can answer that for you. Only three men in the NFL could've caused this much of a racket simply by pulling that maneuver. They are Owens, Randy Moss, and Keyshawn Johnson. That's it. Those are the only three.

Why are those three the ones who could get the nation talking about an utterly harmless act? It's simple, and maybe if any of your parents taught you decent values, you've already thought of this. It's a simple word. R-E-P-U-T-A-T-I-O-N.

The three aforementioned receivers have all established themselves as controversial receivers. Each of those three is going to give the media something to talk about outta nothing. The reason they can do this is because of their past endeavors.

Terrell Owens had the famous "Dallas Star" incident in which he twice took the ball back to the middle of Texas Stadium after scoring a TD and spiked it at mid-field.

Keyshawn Johnson is famous for being a coach's nightmare with his "Just throw me the damn ball!" catchphrase.

And Randy Moss...well...Randy is known as a lazy, selfish, and troubled youngster.

So it should come as no shock to you that Blaze81 was scrutinized heavily by he media following an incident in which he drew attention to himself for any other reason other than football.

When Owens took the pen out of his sock, and with a quick, illustrious swoosh, signed the football for his friend, his financial adviser, it symbolized everything Owens is that has captivated the media. He is a CREATIVE GENIUS, and one with a huge heart and appreciation for his supporters. He gives balls to the members of the grounds crew and kids in wheel chairs at 3com after scoring TDs. He is a speaker for the Sickle-Cell Anemia awareness foundation. He spends a lot of time in charitable community events and is sensational with the fans.

There's absolutely no harm in signing a football autograph after scoring a TD. Nobody does it, but that doesn't make it wrong. Not once did Blaze81 even glimpse at the crowd. Not once did he glimpse at the opposing players on the Seahawks. He did not make any gestures to taunt anyone. He simply signed the ball and handed it to a good friend of his. If the league doesn't like it, they can...well, I'm not sure I can print that here, but let's just say they have no influence over what Owens does.

So what now? How do we look at this situation and figure out what it means to the 49ers and their fans? For starters, we can take the huge positive from this situation. The entire 49ers roster stood up for Owens when interviewed. Every member of the 49ers' roster said they had his back on this one, that they thought it was a great celebration, that there was absolutely, positively nothing wrong with what he did, and that the media could...again, I can't print that here.

The 49ers' team image is changing, and I LOVE it. No longer is this a bunch of creampuff players afraid to do their own thing. Owens' personality has rubbed off on this team, and with that in mind, the "San Francisco Terrell's" should be heavily favored to win it all. Because if every player played AND acted like Terrell Owens, the NFL would be a much better place.
