The positive side of injuries?

Injuries are a part of the game and the 49ers have most definitely had their share. But IF there is anything positive that has come of this years injuries, it is the experience that some of the young (er) players are getting. On the offensive side of the ball, let's start with the season ending injury to Dave Fiore. In the past, the team would have just put veteran Matt Willig in Fiore's spot and moved on. But Willig was also injured at the time, so the team was forced to start rookie Eric Heitmann. The result might have turned out to be a starting guard for the next decade. With Stokes down for a few weeks, Tai Streets and Cedrick Wilson have given opposing defenses more of a speed factor across from T.O. and therefor might have given Owens a little more room to work. Even Tim Rattey got some meaningful snaps earlier in the year when Garcia got dinged up a little. On defense, we have to start with Zack Bronson out and Ronnie Heard in. Heard might not be the instinctive ballhawk that Bronson is, but he might have a little more speed and he is know as an 'on field coach' to the rest of the unit. And with Jamie Winborn and Saleem Rasheed out of commission from the linebacker unit, you might notice that rookie Mike Rumph is playing a little more, with Parish walking up more to the line of scrimmage in passing situations when they pull some of the linebackers.

Injuries are never a good thing. But if you break on through to the other side and your team is still winning, you might just have a better team in the long run. Because of the playing time that some players are getting now, it makes it easier to let go of high priced vets in the up coming years.
