Only thing to do is dream these days

Well, it's mid March folks. It is quiet as can be on the Niner front. The only thing for us fans to do is day dream about the up coming months. Draft day is fast approaching. The maojority seems to agree that Dan Morgan will be our first pick. The noise that Ladamion Tomlinson is making sure makes me salivate though. He's proving to be a West Coast Running Back, with power, speed, and moves to run the ball, as well as speed, moves, and hands to catch the ball out of the backfield. We may reach into the 2nd round and take a running back. A-Train from Michigan may be available. But we need one more year of solid defense drafting. I was talking to a fellow 9er and was talking about 4th-5th round. Possibly picking up Kevin Kasper out of Iowa. He's probably the best overall WR to come out of Iowa. He's not quite as fast as Tim Dwight, but he's very fast and has good hands. I think he could make a run at becoming a 2nd or 3rd receiver, along side TO and Streets! , and let Stokes go cry on somebody else's bench. The more I talk to my Niner buddy, the more I realize that Stokes is a cry baby who has himself convinced he's a great WR, but hasn't proved it to anyone else. I wouldn't mind seeing Mayes or Kasper come in and make a run.

Free agency is supposed to be a No-No for this team, but we are playing in it anyway. Look for more cuts to be made soon. Possibly Jervey and a few others. We are talking about bringing back Roy Barker, a former niner, who wants to play for us at vteran minimum. That would be a cheap pickup, even if he is a backup. Bring back someone who knows the defense and is a veteran. Speaking of veteran leadership, talks are in the making for bringing back Dana Stubblefield. While some think this is crazy, that he isn't good, go look at that front line in the 1994 Superbowl...Bryant Young and Dana Stubblefield. He's saying he'd take a significant pay cut to play for us, or some West Coast team. Seattle may offer more money, but we are his home. So we'll see. Derek Smith, LB from Washington is also considering us. To pick him up would give us our 3 starting LB'S, Peterson, Smith, Ulbrich. We could pick another one up in later rounds and use the picks for depth, not to find st! arters. Itula Mili is also being targeted. My "Niner Buddy" says he's pretty good. I like Clark as a blocker, and granted, he didn't get many balls thrown his way, but if this guy is better than clark, it may give us another weapon on a team that can be called "Lethal Weapon" already.

So, there's the news generating around right now, nothing too exciting. Out of all of these, I'd like to see us pick up Smith, it will ease our draft situation. Adding Stubblefield to the mix makes our defense strong again. We might not be Baltimore, but we could beat them because our offense is explosive. Bring on the draft, it'll be a fun time.
