| Give Me A Break, Garner "9ersfan Curt" 49ers Paradise Fan Press 04.11.2001 Charlie Garner's agent is again proving why we don't need people like him/them on our team. We have had attitudes before and we pushed them out the door. Look at Lawrence Phillips, Deion Sanders, and with recent events, I would put Jerry Rice in this category as well (more about that in a moment). In recent comments, his agent has made remarks such as Charlie wanting to be on a team that plays the 49ers more than once so he can run all over them and see just what they are missing. He tried marketing CG to Carolina, but Seifert didn't bite, the Browns went with a much lesser talent in Curtis Enis just because they knew he would be glad to just play instead of trying to be "the man" when he's not. I'm glad for the time that he did put in with us, but I have to say that in his ancient ways, Walsh is still a master. I honestly think he knew this was coming so he just grinned, gave a little wave to CG and said, "Have yourself a nice day." I can only pray that the other "master," Tom Rathman was right there kicking his butt out the door, right after his agent. Tom Rathman. there's the epitome of a studpin. I honestly hope that Garner is not back next year, but if he is. look for him to be returning kickoffs in place of Jervey. The 9ers should use and abuse him and get every penny of salary out of him. Jerry Rice. Man, I think we should have a mourning period for this guy. Recently, I have had the privilege of watching the old Super Bowl tapes, play by play. For the first time in my life (since I wasn't old enough to remember) I was able to watch Jerry Rice's MVP moments as they happened in SB XXIII, instead of just seeing the highlights. I had almost forgotten exactly what he was capable of before his knee went out a few years ago. He was making people miss him, he was shooting down the field with amazing speed, and he was breaking tackles. If you watch any of the games after the knee injury he sustained (when he was out for the majority of that season) you almost NEVER see him breaking tackles. We haven't seen that burst of speed that shoots him into the end zone with the corner scratching his head saying how much he doesn't deserve to be covering him. And we haven't seen that "team attitude" from him. This is why we have to let him go, but this is also why we lo! ve him so much, and this is going to be hard to see him in a different uniform next year, probably the Seahawks. PLUS, if he goes there, he can't wear his #80, as it is retired to Steve Largent, another amazing WR to play in the NFL. It will be a sad time. If any of you ever gets the chance, try to find those old Super Bowl tapes. Those of you like me that were not old enough to remember seeing Joe Montana rushing in for that 6 yard dive in SB XIX, or "The Drive," or even the spanking that Joe gave John "Smell-way" in SB XXIV, find those tapes!!! The importance of loving the 9ers is not only loving them now in the rebuilding years, but you have to love what got them to today. Seeing why they called Joe Montana "Joe Cool" as he leads the 9ers to the win over the Bengals with "The Drive," throwing the touchdown to John Taylor. Don't just find your history in a highlight reel.
AND, a personal question to those of you out there who HAVE seen the 1st SB with the 9ers, I'm looking to get a copy of it for me to have. I have all of the others, and would like that 1st one. If you have a copy, and would be willing to make a copy for me, email me and we'll set something up!!!
