Rice's release and the teams future

As June 1st approaches, all true 49er fans are feeling sad about the imminent release of the greatest wide receiver to ever play the game, Jerry Rice. It will be difficult to see him in a Raiders, Lions, Seahawks or ??? uniform. Remember seeing Joe Montana wearing # 19 for the Chiefs. Jerry's release is because of one thing, money. There has been talk of a "Larry Bird" type of rule which would allow a team no more than 2 players on the roster who would not count against the salary cap. Teams would be able to use this exemption to retain long time stars like Jerry who have played all or most of their careers with one team. The recent league meetings did not produce a rule like this unfortunately. So niner fans will have to see another favorite leave the team due to "the cap". Cherish your memories, and wish Jerry continued success. The teams future looks bright. Speed is the word. And that is a good thing. Are there some question marks? Of course. Running back is a concern right now but it may resolve itself. If the offensive line stays healthy, I believe the team will be alright. Wide receiver? T.O. is one of the best. J.J.? It is now time for him to step up. Tai Streets? Solid when healthy. Q.B.? Jeff is the man. No worries mate. Defense? I like Carter. B.Y. and Stubby... ooh yeah!! LB's... they are young but fast & like to hit. DB's young, fast, hitters. Special teams need improvement. Kicking game is a question mark. David Allen may be a keeper on punt returns. Overall there is an upside to this team. My prediction is a 9-7 or 10-6 record with a possible wild card position. I just wish it was September. Like Tom Petty says... the waiting is the hardest part.
