| 49er's Future at QB... "Nick Bradley" 49ers Paradise Fan Press 06.20.2002 Our QB position looks very rosy for the rest of the decade, and we may even have the potential to become a "QB Factory" like green bay. As Garcia gets older, it will be ctitical to have a solid backup if he keeps taking hits like he has. Jeff Garcia- Although he's a "young" 32, Jeff won't be around forever. He does amazing things on the field, but in today's NFL EVERY Quarterback eventually gets hurt. And some of them don't recover. Plus, he'll turn 35 in '05. Cade McNown- I know what you're thinking: "shouldn't Rattay be 2nd on this list?" Well, I think that if Garcia went down this year, Cade would be put in over Rattay, simply because he's been there before and that they want to "showcase" him for other teams. They'd most likely share 2nd string backup duties and one won't be there in 2003. Tim Rattay- I loved him at La. Tech. and i think he'll be a great career backup, But i just don't think he's starter material. Cade, on the other hand, is starter matieral and the man who recruited him to UCLA (Donahoe) knows that. I don't think we could ever get more than a 6th for him. Brandon Doman- Great long-term potential! I think he's pretty damned impressive outside of the pocket, and he'll benefit greatly from being on our practice squad and playing in europe in the offseason. He could compete for the backup position in '03. Gio Carmazzi- It's time to cut the chord, and it may have already started. Early injuries have retarded his development and his ability to adapt to a pro offense from the run-and-shoot that he ran in college. Some think that RAttay ran a run-and shoot, but it was more of a West Coast/Run-and-shoot hybrid. Aaron Garcia- He's already 32 and that's way too old to make the leap from Arena to the NFL. Kurt Warner was 28 during his first super bowl run and Garcia was 29 during his first season. My depth Chart:
1. Jeff Garcia |
